Star Fruit | Carambola | Box

The stars are aligned here at Tropical Fruit Box, with Star Fruits that is. In the middle of the hottest summer we've had in forever, these Star Fruits, also called Carambola, finally showed up! They grow in tropical climates around the world, so they seem to like this heat. Go figure!

You definitely want to eat them when they are ripe, if you eat them before, they’ll taste more sour and citrusy. When they ripen, they are sweet, definitely tart but no worries, their taste of apple mixed with pear and fresh crispy grape finish don't disappoint. If the edges are a little brown, don’t worry, it just means they are ready to eat and are sweeter, waiting for you to take a big bite.

You could use them as garnishes in the fanciest drinks ever, add them to salads and even make the famous, Star Fruit upside-down cake. 

We think they should be called Star Hero Fruit since it has anti-inflammation properties, helps with digestion, helps reduce cholesterol, and has a low glycemic index. They are rich in potassium, magnesium, and vitamin C. They are also low in calories and have a high fiber content.
