You won’t believe what fell into our lap! A small batch of local black sapote, also called black soap apple, the sumptuous chocolate pudding fruit that our Tropifruiters have been clamoring for. This is just the type of fruit that you get to brag about on your Instagram or YouTube channel. It’s that wow of an experience. It’s a close cousin of the persimmon and has an amazing flavor profile. Whenever you think the black sapote is ready to be thrown away, it’s actually when it’s ready. Why do we say that? When its ripe, it gets really wrinkly and the skin starts to look like a Chinese Shar-Pei dog (you know, the ones with the wrinkly skin) and when ready, the skin turns into a brownish and olive-green color. When you cut it, the flesh is a dark brown chocolatey color that feels like you just cut into a fresh chocolate lava cake. The texture is custard-like and incredibly smooth. It has a sweet subtle flavor, with a hint of roasted butternut squash and a honey finish, creating a delightful tasting experience that’s just incredibly hard to replicate.

The rambutan, also called Ngoh is a tropical fruit native of Asia. The name rambutan comes from the Malay word that means hairy and when you see one, you’ll understand. Once you peel the skin away, you'll see a beautiful white flesh that has a sweet and sour combination that's pretty unique. In Puerto Rico, they call it Parcha, and they absolutely love it! This fruit is very special. The name of it doesn't come from where you might think. The name was given by the Spanish Catholic Missionaries in the sixteenth century traveling through the South American region where this fruit is native. They called "La flor de las cinco llagas o flor de la pasión" in English, the fruit of the five wounds since it resembled the wounds of Christ or the fruit of passion, so the name passion fruit stuck.   What does Passion Fruit taste like? This fruit packs a punch, flavor-wise, it has a tropical, slightly tart, and sweet taste with an unmistakable aroma. It's no coincidence that it's used in preparing drinks, and some countries even make flavored soda from it. One interesting fact is that Passion Fruit is technically a berry since the whole fruit is fleshy. When is Passion Fruit Ripe? This fruit is very peculiar and unmistakable when it's ripe.
