Red bananas are in! Aren’t you tired of traditional bananas? Well… do we have a contender for you. The beautiful and not boring Red Banana. No, this banana is not angry or blushing, it’s just doing its thing, waiting to be devoured by you!

What makes them different? They have a red purplish colored exterior, their flesh color is a little bit darker with an orangish color and they are slightly plumper. Other than that, if you have a sweet tooth, you’ll love them because they are sweeter than their yellow cousins. They are also denser and juicier so we could say that they are more satisfying. Sweet, creamy but not overwhelming. Some say they are like eating a banana soufflé.

When do you know they are ripe? The universal banana ripeness indicator is firmness. When they start getting softer and their color lightens, they are good to go.

You can definitely eat them by themselves, use them in desserts, and they also make awesome smoothie companions since you can mix them with pretty much anything healthy and they will make it taste better.
