We finally got Passion Fruit in Spanish it is also known as Maracuya, Maracuja, Granadilla, Lilikoi, and many names all over the world! In Puerto Rico, they call it Parcha, and they absolutely love it! This fruit is very special. The name of it doesn't come from where you might think. The name was given by the Spanish Catholic Missionaries in the sixteenth century traveling through the South American region where this fruit is native. They called "La flor de las cinco llagas o flor de la pasión" in English, the fruit of the five wounds since it resembled the wounds of Christ or the fruit of passion, so the name passion fruit stuck.   What does Passion Fruit taste like? This fruit packs a punch, flavor-wise, it has a tropical, slightly tart, and sweet taste with an unmistakable aroma. Our Fresh White Guavas, also called Thai Guavas are one of our most requested fruits. They are about the size of a baseball, have a bumpy edible green skin and they are pretty delicious. They are not as sweet as our pink guavas but hey, everyone likes what they like. Guavas are high on Vitamins A, C and are a traditional remedy for a number of ailments but that's just one big bonus. The pome in pomegranate comes from the Latin word for apple and granate from the word for seed. June Plum, also called Ambarella is now available! A close cousin to the Mango, the succulent June plum is a thick, leathery-skinned plum that can be eaten when ripe or even unripe. Also known as Golden Apple, Ambarella, Pomme cythere, Mangotín, Jobo Indio, Kedondong, Manzana de Oro, Tonga, Hog Plum, and a few other names. The reality is that many countries and cultures love the June Plum but Jamaicans are the ones that ask for it more often, a lot more often. How do you eat it? Do we really have to tell you that? Other than peeling the skin and eating it like a proper fruit, people make refreshing drinks, desserts, jams and it’s served with meats, seafood, and other dishes. They are frequently pickled, so it shows their versatility. The June Plum's flesh has a golden color, it's sweet, savory, and a little sour with some tartness and has a crispy-crunchy feel to it. It tastes like a mixture between a mango and a pineapple but with that buttery finish that will leave you wanting to eat more. It’s a little tart and sweet with pineapple, apple, and mango notes. One of the most coveted varieties of mango, the Francis or Francine is now available from Ecuador. This mango is sweet, fruity, bold and a little spicy. Handpicked in the fertile soil of Ecuador, this mango has a bright yellow skin with green overtones. Its oblong S shape makes it look very feminine and it has very easy to peel skin and stringy texture. As it ripens, the green color starts to dim and the yellow turns into a golden color. This mango grows only in small batch farms in Haiti and Dominican Republic in the summer and Ecuador in winter/spring.  

In Greece, they are called the divine fruit, it’s the national fruit of Japan and in the U.S. this variety is about 80% of the market. We don’t know what you guys think but the Fuyu Persimmon has something going for it. Their taste is a mixture of a rich, honey-like mild flavor that’s like nothing you’ve ever had before, unless of course… you’ve eaten persimmons :) They have fiber and vitamins that we are not going to mention because Facebook keeps blocking our listings saying that we are selling medical devices so, there...have you heard the phrase food as medicine? You won’t believe what fell into our lap! A small batch of local black sapote, also called black soap apple, the sumptuous chocolate pudding fruit that our Tropifruiters have been clamoring for. This is just the type of fruit that you get to brag about on your Instagram or YouTube channel. It’s that wow of an experience. It’s a close cousin of the persimmon and has an amazing flavor profile. Whenever you think the black sapote is ready to be thrown away, it’s actually when it’s ready. Why do we say that? When its ripe, it gets really wrinkly and the skin starts to look like a Chinese Shar-Pei dog (you know, the ones with the wrinkly skin) and when ready, the skin turns into a brownish and olive-green color. When you cut it, the flesh is a dark brown chocolatey color that feels like you just cut into a fresh chocolate lava cake. The texture is custard-like and incredibly smooth. It has a sweet subtle flavor, with a hint of roasted butternut squash and a honey finish, creating a delightful tasting experience that’s just incredibly hard to replicate.

We have Sapodilla! After a crazy season, we were able to get our hands on a small batch of the ever-popular Sapodilla, also called Nispero, Chico Fruit, Zapote, Zapotillo, and Tree Potato, which curiously, tastes nothing like a potato. As a matter of fact, comparing this fruit to a potato is our new apples and oranges. So, from now on, to show that you are an Exotic fruit connoisseur, you'll say while slightly elevating your nose, it's like Sapodillas and Potatoes. People might look at you funny but Tropifruiters and the Fruitarians are going to revere you, but I digress... What does it taste like? This is definitely a dessert fruit, it's very sweet and has oaky, light molasses notes, and the flavor of brown sugar and roasted sweet potato. You can just chill it and eat it with a spoon, it's that good! The Sapodilla is a close cousin of the Mamey Sapote, Canistel, and Caimito, also known as Star Apple. Some of our very favorites. This is a very special fruit, the skin is light brown and the flesh has a beautiful golden brownish caramel color that reminds me of the sands of the Sahara. You know it's ripe when it's starting to soften and gives slightly to the touch. You know, it feels soft without being overly soft. When it's ready, pounce!
